calfordseaden is a leading multi-disciplined construction and property consultancy. We provide a definitive range of services to the UK building and construction industry covering civil and structural engineering; chartered building and quantity surveying; project management; architecture and master planning; mechanical and electrical engineering; sustainability; fire consultancy, building information modelling (BIM); and health and safety.

Position

The role:

This is an exciting new role created to lead the MEP CAD model and drawing production process. The role brings together a 5 pronged approach to delivery; comprising of a core team of CAD/BIM technicians within the MEP group, drawing production and adjustments by engineers, selected internal assistance from other technical disciplines, external CAD bureau assistance, and finally contract / agency staff.

The post holder will create and lead this function with the Group leader, setting the standard for efficient high quality drawing and model production, prioritizing and delivering strategies agreed in collaboration with the Associate and Partner led management team.

The majority of work will be towards high quality 2D drawing production using Autocad MEP and the remainder within a REVIT MEP environment.

We provide client advisory services with design standards to RIBA 3 and a RIBA 4A level of detail. The strategy is to deliver high quality coordinated information for tender, coordination and third party approval purposes.

Our main operating sectors are the residential and commercial sectors, generally comprising from small to medium size projects to £75m construction value.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Review existing templates, standard details and object families in collaboration with the MEP management team and lead change where needed to ensure that a CAD/BIM manual appropriate for the level of detail we typically produce is in place and regularly updated and adhered to.
  • Review and manage quality output from the 5 pronged delivery approach of team, engineers, internal assistance, CAD bureau and contract / agency staff.
  • Manage day to day workload of the CAD / BIM model team, and agree priorities and delivery dates with the MEP management team.
  • Manage people within immediate team.
  • Set the standard for quality and delivery of information.
  • Continually review opportunities for operational efficiency using software, hardware, training and new technology, and implement within the team in collaboration with the MEP management team.
  • Produce Building services mechanical, electrical public health layout drawings using Autocad MEP and REVIT where required, both 2D and 3D coordination, following BSRIA BG6 levels of detail against RIBA workstages.
  • Set the standard for drawing production and delivery and assist in the training and development of the team aligned to the needs to business and the individual.

What you’ll need:

Qualifications

  • Construction industry related diploma or degree level qualification, preferably in building services MEP and / or extensive experience 15-20 years + in MEP sector.
  • Autodesk family of software certifications desirable but not essential.

Knowledge

  • Autodesk Autocad MEP with productivity plug ins.
  • Autodesk Revit, and related clash detection, visualisation, productivity and coordination tools.
  • Working within common data environments to ISO 19650 standards.
  • Autodesk construction cloud data environment.
  • Extensive Building Services MEP knowledge gained within either a consulting engineering and/or contracting environment, preferably residential sectors.
  • Family, object creation, and drawing / model templates production.
  • Basic knowledge of COBIE data production and interrogation.
  • Basic knowledge of creating custom scripts and productivity tools.
  • Good knowledge of BSRIA BG6 levels of detail against RIBA workstages.
  • Previous experience of managing people.
