Job Summary for Buyer

You will be responsible for managing project procurement activities, supplier negotiations, material logistics, and ensuring cost-effective and timely purchasing for mechanical and electrical (M&E) projects. This is an office-based position working Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm.


Key Responsibilities for Buyer

  1. Project Procurement (day-to-day) including Purchase Orders (Sage)
  2. Project Requisition Books
  3. Creating & Maintaining Call Off Schedules/Trackers
  4. Creating Material Journey Plan for New Projects Secured/delivery logistics
  5. Updating & Maintaining Purchase Order Tracker
  6. Material Quotations (support Estimating/Commercial/Customer Care)
  7. Value Engineering (VE) (Tenders) and into Project
  8. Technical Submissions (Data Sheets/Technical Info, Lead times etc)
  9. Creating Sample boards/Samples as required by Design Team
  10. Project Specifications/Schedule/Tender Understanding for VE, Material Schedules
  11. Negotiating best rates, rebates, settlements, credit limits and T&Cs with Suppliers (with Management approval)
  12. Creating & Maintaining 1st Fix, 2nd Fix and Final Kits (Bulk Orders)
  13. PPE Management - including Stock take & re-ordering
  14. Proof Of Deliveries (PODs)
  15. Meeting with and building relationships with new/old suppliers
  16. Regularly reviewing what can be returned/reused/sold from Stores
  17. Attending sites to regularly review what can be returned/reused/ from spare materials on site
  18. Arrange Pallets & Cable Drum collections

Requirements for Buyer

  1. Proven experience in procurement or buying within the M&E, construction, or building services sector.
  2. Strong understanding of M&E materials, specifications, and project requirements.
  3. Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure favourable terms.
  4. Experience using Sage or similar procurement software.
  5. Strong analytical and organisational skills, with an ability to track and manage multiple procurement tasks.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with estimating, commercial, and project teams.
  7. Good knowledge of supply chain processes, lead times, and logistics management.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
