Job description

Fawkes & Reece South are working with an established and growing contractor that works on civil engineering and groundworks projects on behalf of main contractors throughout the South of England. They are currently looking to add another Buyer to their procurement department as they've recently had a successful year.

As a Buyer, you will be reporting to the Procurement Director, and your role will be to build on current and establish new relationships with the supply chain. You will work closely with various teams such as production teams, the commercial department, and suppliers to ensure materials are sourced at competitive prices and projects are sufficiently resourced.

You will be involved in (but not limited to):

  1. Responsible for material procurement for several ongoing projects
  2. Obtaining and negotiating quotes/prices from various suppliers
  3. Working closely with the project team to ensure orders are placed in line with the programme
  4. Attend internal coordination meetings for ongoing projects
  5. Regular reporting of project costs against tender
  6. Sourcing of new suppliers and products
  7. Checking engineering drawings for discrepancies and compliance with the required material specification
  8. Control all purchasing administration and ensure all transactions are completed and recorded correctly
  9. Managing any potential supply problems and working to find solutions

Requirements including skills and qualifications:

  1. Experience working in a purchasing or buying role within civil engineering/construction or a similar industry
  2. Be a natural problem solver and able to use initiative to find solutions
  3. Good attention to detail required
  4. Effective communication skills
  5. Candidates must be able to prove their eligibility to work in the UK
