Job description

NRL’s manufacturing client is looking to recruit a BUYER on a permanent staff basis. The client offers a 4 day working week!


About the role:

To be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, components, and services necessary for our manufacturing operations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to optimise supply chain operations, drive cost savings, and maintain the highest quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. To ensure the MRP output reports are quickly and accurately translated to supplier, taking cognizance of leadtime and inventory targets.
  2. To ensure supplier on-time delivery through effective expediting.
  3. To ensure that material shortage risks are identified, assessed and communicated within the business.
  4. To ensure accuracy of the ERP database for all parts under their control, including leadtimes, minimum order quantities, cost data and all planning parameters.
  5. To monitor goods received to ensure that suppliers are not shipping product ahead of schedule.
  6. To co-ordinate ECO activity with the supply base and in doing so, minimise obsolescence and cost.
  7. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  8. To be responsible for inventory management, working towards specific inventory targets and identifying opportunities for inventory reduction. Including minimisation of excess and obsolescence.
  9. Undertake departmental and customer projects as necessary to drive improvement and change.
  10. Initiate change and assist in driving change management process throughout the team.
  11. Deputise for the Materials Manager when required. Run all associate reporting, ie Inventory reports, OIX report and weekly metrics and attend all scheduled meetings.

Risk Management:

Monitor and assess potential supply chain disruptions, develop risk mitigation strategies, and implement contingency plans to minimize impacts on production.


Reporting:

Generate and analyse procurement-related reports, metrics, and KPIs to provide insights to management and contribute to strategic decision-making.


Health & Safety:

  1. Be aware of the company’s H&S policy and BSEN ISO 18001 H&S Management System.
  2. To work in a safe manner, never placing yourself or another employee in danger.
  3. Do not operate equipment if you are not trained or authorised to do so.
  4. To report immediately any equipment that may not be fit for purpose.
  5. To raise and discuss any issues relating to Health and Safety with your Supervisor or Production Manager.

Quality:

  1. Be aware of the company’s quality policy and ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
  2. To preserve product quality at all times.
  3. To comply with all manufacturing standards relevant to the product including planning documentation, work instructions & IPC 610 workmanship standards.
  4. To be willing to raise and discuss issues relating to the Quality of the product and any procedural non-compliances.

Environment:

Be aware of the company’s Environmental Policy and BSEN ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Be prepared to work in a manner which reduces waste and discuss any issues or improvements with your Manager.
