Business Development Manager – Government

About the Role

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Manager to lead growth within our Government Division. The role will be responsible for securing new government contracts, managing tender processes, and driving growth and profitability from existing government business. You will be instrumental in expanding our footprint within the public sector, ensuring that we continue to be a trusted partner for language services across various government departments and agencies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government sales, tender writing, and contract management within the language services industry or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:

Government Sales Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to win new government contracts and expand our presence within the public sector.
  • Identify and target key government departments, agencies, and organisations where our language services can add significant value.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key government stakeholders, understanding their unique needs and challenges.
  • Monitor government procurement trends, policy changes, and competitor activity to inform sales strategies.

Tender Writing and Proposal Management:

  • Lead the tender writing process for government contracts, ensuring that all proposals are comprehensive, competitive, and aligned with client requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary information and develop compelling proposals that highlight our strengths and capabilities.
  • Manage the end-to-end proposal process, from initial expression of interest to submission and post-tender follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with all government procurement regulations and requirements throughout the tender process.

Account Management and Growth:

  • Oversee the management of existing government contracts, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and contract performance.
  • Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling additional services within existing government contracts to drive growth and profitability.
  • Work closely with service delivery teams to ensure that contract obligations are met and that we consistently exceed client expectations.
  • Regularly review contract performance and financial metrics to identify areas for improvement and potential growth opportunities.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare regular reports on government sales activities, tender outcomes, and contract performance for senior management.
  • Analyse sales and contract data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for growth.
  • Use insights gained from data analysis to inform decision-making and refine government sales strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Circa 5 years of experience in government sales, with a solid experience in tender writing and contract management.
  • Proven track record of success in winning and managing government contracts, preferably within the language services industry or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of government procurement processes and regulations.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse market data and trends to drive business decisions.
  • Willingness to travel as required and be present in the Newbury office on a weekly basis.
