Job Title: Business Development Manager (2 positions)

Location: UK-wide, work from home (fully remote), with regular visits across the UK to client sites

Salary: £38,000 per year

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, flexible between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday

Holidays: 28 days including bank holidays

Company Background and Role Context

Our client, with a history spanning 80 years and established operations in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, is a leading provider of steel fabrication services, focusing on transmission and distribution projects as well as industrial and energy infrastructure projects. The company processes up to 120,000 tonnes of steel per annum and offers services including design, supply, fabrication, galvanization, painting, site delivery, and erection of structural steel, process steel equipment, tanks, pressure vessels, stacks, transmission and telecommunication towers, lighting poles, and pre-engineered buildings. As part of its expansion strategy, our client is seeking to strengthen its UK market presence, and this role is pivotal in driving that growth.

The Business Development Manager position is designed for experienced professionals who can lead business development efforts remotely from anywhere in the UK, with regular travel for client meetings and trade shows. This expansion into the UK market presents an exciting opportunity for candidates to be part of a growing international team, potentially engaging with global projects and clients.

Successful candidates will report to the Regional Sales and Business Development Manager, based within the North East region of England.

Responsibilities

The Business Development Managers will identify new business opportunities, build client relationships, and coordinate with internal teams within the UK and Head office based in Egypt. They must have an established UK client network around industrial and energy infrastructure projects and/or transmission and distribution projects. Experience with Tier one contractors within the infrastructure market is highly desirable.

The Business Development Managers will be responsible for the following key areas:

  1. Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the UK energy sector, develop and maintain a pipeline of potential clients and projects, and prepare and deliver presentations and proposals to prospective clients.
  2. Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, understand client needs, and provide tailored solutions using our clients' steel products and services. Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery and quality of services.
  3. Market Research and Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, competitors, and regulatory changes in the energy sector, and conduct research to identify new markets and opportunities for expansion.
  4. Travel: Regular travel to visit clients, trade shows, and other business-related events as needed, with possible overseas travel to support business development efforts.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

Experience:

  1. Proven experience in business development, sales, or a similar role within the steel, energy, or infrastructure sectors (such as transmission towers).
  2. Knowledge of steel products and fabrication processes, essential for understanding the company's offerings.
  3. Understanding of the energy sector, particularly in industrial and energy infrastructure and/or power transmission and distribution, to align with client needs.
  4. Experience working with major contractors and suppliers in the energy sector is desirable, enhancing the ability to secure significant contracts.

Skills:

  1. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, crucial for client interactions and deal closures.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills, enabling the building and maintenance of relationships.
  3. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, to ensure clear communication in a professional setting.
  4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, given the remote nature of the role.

Qualifications:

  1. A degree in business, engineering, or a related field is preferred, providing a strong foundation for the role.
  2. Professional certifications in sales or project management are a plus, adding value to the candidate's profile.

Additional Requirements:

  1. An established database of clients and contacts throughout the UK is highly desirable, facilitating quicker market penetration.
  2. Knowledge of medium voltage, high voltage, and extra high voltage cabling is beneficial, aligning with the technical needs of energy projects.
  3. Must have access to a vehicle and be willing to use said vehicle for business purposes as and when required.
