Job description

Business Analyst - Financial Crime Investigations

Some careers open more doors than others.

If you're looking for a career that will unlock new opportunities, join HSBC and experience the possibilities. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

Our Risk and Compliance function has a critical role to play in supporting, challenging and advising across all areas of the business through establishing policy, monitoring profiles, and identifying and managing forward-looking risk and compliance. We focus on creating an environment that encourages our people to speak up and do the right thing, as well as protecting our customers, the organisation and the integrity of the financial markets in which we operate. Already an industry-leader in many respects, we want to continue setting standards and evolving to respond to strategic changes.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Business Analyst - Financial Crime Investigations.

Financial Crime Investigations (FCI) focuses on the specific financial crime threats the firm faces now and, in the future, pioneering the techniques and technology that protect our business, our customers, and the many communities in which we operate from the harms associated with financial crime. FCI harnesses intelligence, analytics, technology, investigation, information sharing, and public-private partnership to achieve this end, always seeking the most effective and efficient means.

The Business Analyst will enable effective and efficient operations as part of the Investigations sub value stream through the design, development, and operation of an industry-leading set of tools.

In this role, you will:

  • Enhance the effectiveness of investigators through implementing innovative AI capabilities within the FC Investigation process that provides both data summarisation and insights to enhance the ability to determine Financial crime risk whilst reducing manually intensive activities.
  • Supporting the definition and management of the roadmap for the delivery and integration of AI capabilities that will continue to evolve and expand across the FC Investigative landscape.
  • Assist with ensuring business and technology system processes are consistent and fit for purpose when considering the application and use of the Investigator Portal.
  • Supporting the professional delivery of technology investment to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, security and cost-profile of investigation.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with Detection, Technology firms, security and regulatory agencies, and financial intelligence units.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • A proven track record as a Business Analyst, with strengths in information gathering and change management.
  • Good understanding of business architecture fundamentals, including capability development and process mapping.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Financial Crime domain and the investigative process.
  • Ability to support the delivery of technology-led change aligned with business outcomes.
  • Strong Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage at senior level.

This is a hybrid role, and it can be based in Edinburgh or Sheffield with a requirement of being in the office three days per week.

You'll achieve more when you join HSBC.

Within HSBC certain roles are designated as Enhanced Vetting Roles. For these roles, all internal and external applicants are required (subject to local laws), to pass satisfactorily a series of additional checks both as part of the application process and, if successfully recruited into the Enhanced Vetting role, on an ongoing basis. The Group reserves its position with regard to any steps which it may take in relation to any material adverse findings which arise either when the checks are first carried out as part of this recruitment exercise, and/or if relevant, on an ongoing basis.
