Business Analyst (6 months fixed term contract)

Location: United Kingdom

Salary: £42,000 per annum (will be pro-rated to 6 months contract)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
You will gather, validate, and document business requirements using workshops, user research, use cases, and task and workflow analysis. You will create and manage functional specifications and contribute to identifying and validating appropriate solutions to support business objectives for commercially licensed products.

You will act as a key liaison between relevant stakeholders and departments, and product and software development teams to ensure feature implementation goals are met.

You will be proactive, approachable, and curious. You will demonstrate an aptitude for user-centric, data-informed problem solving. As well as being a skilful communicator, you will be able to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all levels. You will be driven to provide value and deliver demonstrable impact.

This is a six-month fixed term contract.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/KEY RESULT AREAS

  1. Investigate complex requirements: Create detailed functional specifications, collaborate with UX teams to prepare wireframes and mock-ups, and work with technical teams to deliver implementation solutions for commercially licensed products.
  2. Assess potential impact and resource requirements: Evaluate new product features and functionalities, providing support and tracking feature specifications from design to release, ensuring they meet commercial objectives.
  3. Facilitate data-informed product development: Contribute to the product strategy by determining metrics strategy for new functionality, ensuring alignment with commercial goals and market demands.
  4. Support user research: Assist the Product lead in conducting user research, such as validating product concepts and benchmarking user experience through various methods, including user interviews, focus groups, and remote observation techniques.
  5. Develop product and business knowledge: Gain a deep understanding of the product strategy, core systems, business processes, data sources, and collection methods to address business issues and data challenges specific to commercially licensed products.
  6. Collaborate with Agile development teams: Work with an outsourced Agile software development vendor, providing timely input to facilitate planning and ongoing support as needed for development progress.
  7. Verify functionality: Ensure that developed functionality meets specifications, commercial goals, and user needs.
  8. Improve development processes: Contribute to the enhancement of development processes through constructive feedback and a willingness to implement process changes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential

  • Strong ability to translate business goals into technical requirements that developers implement, including experience of
  • Applying structured approaches to analyse and communicate business problems and opportunities
  • Analysing business goals and processes, using data-driven approaches to define requirements
  • Contributing to ensuring proposed solutions meet business and user needs
  • In-depth knowledge of feature definition, technical analysis, and software development processes.
  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with senior stakeholders, technical colleagues, and subject matter experts.
  • Able to work efficiently and effectively with a geographically-dispersed, virtual-first team and across partner organizations.
Preferred
  • Professional qualification in Agile methodologies, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Understanding of Cochrane, evidence-based health care, systematic reviews, and/or the global health sector, enabling informed decision-making and contribution to relevant projects.
  • Experience working in a publishing or digital content environment, resulting in an understanding of the challenges and requirements, and the ability to navigate these effectively.
  • JIRA experience is desirable.
  • Experience in 'business-to-consumer' or institutional sales environments is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel (including to the UK office) as required, facilitating collaboration and engagement, and ensuring the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
