Salary: Base salary: £34,650pa to c.£40,750pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 15% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

As a Business Analyst at HS2 you will sit within the Delivery Integration & Management function. The role selects, adopts and adapts appropriate business analysis, requirements definition and requirements management methods, tools and techniques to support the delivery of IT products and services across HS2.
About the role:
- Analyse and understand business goals, problems and processes within HS2, undertaking relevant research and analysis to articulate user business needs for the delivery of effective solutions.
- Develop and apply structured approaches to identify, investigate, analyse and communicate complex business problems and opportunities, within a defined project, programme or product.
- Plan and drive scoping of large, complex initiatives by defining requirements, completing prioritisation activities, and developing user stories.
- Plan, manage, and investigate business situation analysis where there is significant ambiguity and complexity.
- Engage and collaborate with senior business stakeholders and specialists to gain input and agreement on solutions and recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of organisational methods and standards for business analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve business performance within defined initiative areas, using a product-centric approach to propose innovative solutions.
- Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders and specialists to gather input required to carry out effective options analysis, assess feasibility and operational impact, quantify potential business benefits and contribute to business case development.
- Ensure proposed solutions meet business and user needs.
- Identify and compare the best processes or delivery methods to use, including measuring and evaluating outcomes.
- Lead the analysis, identification and design of process and business changes to improve how HS2 operates, through changes to information systems, technology, business processes, practices and organisation, understanding the holistic effect of potential changes due to business interactions.
- Identify, analyse, manage and monitor relationships with and between internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify business scenarios and develop acceptance criteria to ensure requirements can be traced to develop functionality.
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
About You:
Skills:
- Business situation analysis: Ability to investigate business situations to define recommended solutions or remedies.
- Feasibility assessment: Ability to define, evaluate, and describe business change options, assessing their financial, technical, and business feasibility, and strategic alignment.
- Requirements definition and management: Ability to manage requirements through the entire delivery and operational lifecycle.
- User experience evaluation: Ability to provisionally validate proposed systems, products, and services against user experience goals and expectations.
- Business modelling: Ability to model various elements of HS2 and understand the effect of potential changes on processes, systems, structures, data and roles and responsibilities.
- Business process improvement: Ability to create new and innovative approaches to performing business activities or delivering business change.
- Systems analysis: Ability to identify and analyse IT system capabilities and develop models and system requirements for bespoke IT systems or products.
- Stakeholder relationship management: Ability to collaborate with internal and external HS2 stakeholders, articulating solutions and influencing attitudes and decisions.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Business Analysis methodologies and tools, with proven skill of identifying key strategic value drivers.
- Knowledge of multiple industry-wide business modelling techniques of various detail level.
- Recognised Business Analysis certification such as IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional, BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis, PMI Professional in Business Analysis, or degree in a relevant field such as Business Intelligence, Analytics or Strategic Management.
- Knowledge of various business case development techniques, with a track record of delivering solutions to complex issues.
- Knowledge of digital information technology, trends, and the opportunities they present.
- Knowledge of HS2's industry and end-user expectations and needs.
Experience:
- Experience of leading the development of BA approaches to solve organisational problems using a range of recognised Business Analysis tools.
- Experience with facilitating requirements gathering sessions of large and complex solutions with multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrable capability of managing multiple projects with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience working in a multi-vendor environment.
