Job Ref: BSE – 1_

Date Added: April 8th, 2025

Consultant: We are recruiting for a Building Services Engineer with an Electrical background to join our Banking client's Property Services Data Centre team. You'll be required to complete planned and reactive maintenance tasks and will be expected to complete regular scenario testing to ensure you're trained and able to respond to site technical issues should they occur.

You will be expected to accept on–call duties, alongside High Voltage authorised person duties, which we provide training for. Our Data Centre maintenance team works alongside other Nationwide colleagues and suppliers, including IT stakeholders, within the Data Centre.

This role is based on site, full–time in our Data Centre in Newbury. This role consists of on–call work, 1 week in every 3. This role provides overtime opportunities and an on–call allowance.

A typical day within this job role would involve proactive maintenance duties and reactive maintenance tasks. You'll work closely with your fellow maintenance team members and specialist maintenance supply partners and will help with basic maintenance administration (working with and contributing to health and safety documentation, site escorting of visitors, etc.).

Within the first 6 months of your employment, you will be supported to become technically familiarised with our Newbury Data Centre. Once this understanding has been assessed and validated, on–call duties will be incorporated into the job role.

What are we looking for:

  • A minimum of level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering maintenance and/or installation discipline (or equivalent).
  • Relevant Building Services Engineering experience e.g. apprentice qualified and a solid background of practical experience as a qualified engineer.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Operating systems and Building Management Systems.
  • Experience in the maintenance of 'environmental' equipment, including HVAC, UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply), generators, fire alarm systems, etc.
  • Experience in Critical Engineering activity and working well within a team. Ability to provide advice as a Technical specialist.

The extras you get:

  • A personal pension – if you put in 7% of your salary, we'll top up by a further 16%.
  • Up to 2 days of paid volunteering a year.
  • Life assurance worth 8x your salary.
  • A great selection of additional benefits through our salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Wellhub – Access to a range of free and paid options for health and wellness.
  • Access to an annual performance–related bonus.
  • Access to training to help you develop and progress your career.
  • On–call allowance and overtime opportunities.
