Job description

Builder / Multi Trader

Location: Godalming, Surrey

Salary: £33,500 per annum

Our client's school is beautiful and a wonderful place to live and work. It was founded in 1611 and moved to its present magnificent 250-acre site near Godalming in Surrey in 1872. Few schools can offer such a splendid backdrop for teaching and learning, and the School community is very strong, with excellent relationships between pupils and staff.

The Role
  1. The role will require you to be a good 'all-rounder' and work on any 'inhouse' projects that may occur.
  2. To undertake building and roofing construction and maintenance tasks as required.
  3. To carry out regular routine duties that will include: - clearing drains, clearing gutters, clearing roofs.
  4. The building/multi-trader will work closely with the various trades to ensure the day-to-day work orders are processed within the designated timescales.
  5. To report and react to maintenance issues and assist other trades as required.
  6. To collect, transport and deliver materials around the site as required for works being carried out by yourself and other members of the Estate department.
  7. To assist the Estate department with the assembly and support of access and manual handling equipment.
  8. To have a good understanding of relevant roles and site-specific Health & Safety including COSHH, PUWER and working at height.
  9. To report Health & Safety concerns to the Fabric Maintenance Manager.
  10. To escort contractors around the School when required.
  11. To be able to work unsupervised on designated maintenance tasks.
  12. To carry out other tasks as may be required from time to time by the Fabric Maintenance Manager and other Estate Department Managers.
  13. To work in a safe, clean and tidy manner around pupils, support staff and the general public and generally protect the fabric of the School buildings.
  14. Whilst you will work for the Fabric Maintenance Manager, you may also work for other members of the Estate Department at certain times.
To fulfil the above tasks, you will be required to:
  1. Be able to plan ahead to ensure future work is planned and completed efficiently and within the agreed timescales.
  2. Obtain materials and arrange all necessary access to undertake tasks in a timely and professional manner.
  3. Conduct Risk Assessments and COSHH Assessments necessary for the performance of tasks and to operate machinery and equipment appropriate to those tasks.
  4. Ensure the Fabric Maintenance Manager is kept aware of your progress and of any problems that may arise.
  5. Ensure proper communication with and the flow of information back to all members of the School community where required.
  6. Select, maintain and manage work equipment and tools (including power tools).
Skills and Qualifications
  1. They are seeking a builder with multi-trade skills - they will require relevant trade qualifications and/or trade experience for this role.
  2. To have proven experience of managing multiple projects and dealing with a wide range of size and type of building tasks.
  3. Experience of working in a construction/maintenance environment.
  4. Holder of a clean, valid driving licence.
