Job description

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our Estates & Facilities Team as we are looking to provide an efficient and high quality service.

You will be key to the running of our hospitals, by performing activities on a range of Estate buildings and fabric to support our services, so that they can continue to care for patients and families across mid and south Essex.

So, if you are a Building General Handyman, with relevant experience, we want to hear from you today.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to work on building fabrics to meet the Department's objective and liaise with service contractors, which may include arranging access to areas, and shutdown of essential plant and systems, in order to facilitate ongoing maintenance, respond to breakdowns and facilitate repairs.

You will always ensure compliance with all Trust and Statutory standards and procedures and carry out your duties across the MSE sites and should therefore be able to travel under your own ability to all premises owned or run by the Trust.

You will communicate with all levels of Trust Staff regarding maintenance and repair arrangements and schedules in order to underpin the smooth and efficient running of the Trust and maintain continuity of care.

You will manufacture, assemble, erect and install items of equipment in line with your role and will assist external contractors as and when required.

You will exert moderate physical effort for sustained periods and intense physical effort for short periods, as appropriate during your duties and be prepared to work in hazardous areas, taking all H&S measures into account to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment. This will include using heavy lifting equipment, working in confined spaces and unpleasant conditions.

During the normal course of your duties you will be required to work in all areas of the hospital. This includes areas where you will be indirectly exposed to distressing and emotional situations.

About us

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook - if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
