Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Brewing Team as our Brewing Operative.

You will play an important role in assisting with brewing excellent beer.

The Role

As a Brewing Operative you will play a key role in the production process, working within our brewing team to produce exceptional beer from raw materials, all the way through to preparing and signing beer off for packaging. The job rotates through a shift pattern between wort production and cellaring.

Responsibilities

  • Follow SOPs to carry out daily tasks including but not limited to:
  • Start of day, end of day, deep clean checklists;
  • Tank CIPs, brew tank preparation, transfer tank preparation;
  • Wort production.
  • Daily checks (gravity, pH, cell counts, ABV, DO, CO2), & other minor ops;
  • Yeast cropping and pitching;
  • Dry Hopping;
  • Transfers;
  • Carbonating;
  • Completing daily record keeping for all aspects of brewing and cellaring;
  • Checking set quality (QA/QC) specifications and parameters are met by every batch, and reporting any and all deviations to the Brewing Team Coordinator;
  • Ensuring all beers are on schedule, and reporting any necessary deviations to the Brewing Team Coordinator;
  • Maintaining a clear and timely hand over of signed off beer to the Packaging Team;
  • Maintaining the brewery and workspace at the highest possible hygiene standards;
  • Ensure raw material stock is well managed and maintained;
  • Participating in daily, weekly and monthly meetings with the Brewing Team & wider Production Team;
  • Maintaining health and safety compliance;
  • Be engaged with the product and work and maintain a positive attitude towards continual improvement;
  • Be engaged with beer quality, keeping in touch with the wider brewing industry and contributing to discussions on recipe & process improvements.

Selection criteria

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a production brewery;
  • Ability to work required shifts including regular weekends;
  • Excellent communication, time management, troubleshooting, and organisational skills;
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement;
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with a 4 vessel brew kit; automated CIP system; QA/QC equipment;
  • Forklift certification;
  • Brewing certification - IBD or other.

Brewing Department / Team

The brewing team is responsible for wort production and cellaring of beer up until the point of handover to the packaging team. The current team consists of the following job roles:

  • Head Brewer;
  • Brewing Team Coordinator;
  • Technical Brewer;
  • Brewing Operative x 2;
  • General Brewery Assistant.

Salary - £28,000 (dependant on experience) per annum.
