This is a bold and innovative spirits company committed to quality, craftsmanship, and pushing boundaries in the industry. They are seeking a meticulous and proactive Bookkeeper to join their talented team, ensuring smooth financial operations, compliance, and efficient management of duty payments for our spirits production and distribution.

Financial Operations & Compliance

  • Raise and track invoices, managing accounts receivable and debtor collections.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Excise Duty & HMRC Compliance
  • Oversee all aspects of alcohol duty compliance, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to HMRC or other relevant authorities.
  • Calculate and process duty payments based on alcohol production, movements, and sales.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of duty-paid and duty-suspended stock, ensuring compliance with bonded warehouse regulations.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and annual duty returns, reconciling duty liabilities with stock movements.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, ensuring the business remains compliant with current excise duty legislation.
  • Stay updated on changes in duty regulations and advise the business on potential financial implications.
Stock Control & Finance-Warehouse Interface
  • Work closely with the warehouse and operations teams to track stock movements and reconcile against financial records.
  • Ensure accurate recording of bonded and duty-paid stock, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Monitor and report on stock discrepancies, investigating and resolving any issues.
  • Assist in managing stock valuations and ensuring correct duty liabilities are applied.
Reporting & Management Information
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports for management review, including duty payment forecasts.
  • Assist in monthly and annual financial reconciliations, ensuring accuracy in reporting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, factoring in duty liabilities.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar finance role, ideally within the alcohol or spirits industry.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience managing excise duty payments and compliance, particularly in the spirits or alcohol industry.
  • Understanding of bonded warehouses and duty-suspended vs. duty-paid stock management.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
This is an amazing opportunity to be part of an exciting and growing spirits company with a strong brand identity, working in a dynamic and collaborative environment!
