Description

Diversity matters
We are building a brand that represents the people of the world. It's what you do that counts, and we are always looking to expand perspectives and voices to shape our future.

We see you, we celebrate you, we want you!

Who we are
You might know us as the inventors of the bath bomb, but there's more to this great-smelling, partly employee-owned, family-run company than pioneering cosmetics. We believe our business should put more back into the world than it takes and demonstrate that capitalism can be a force for good.

The Living Wage Foundation's statement 'a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay' is one that we are proud to commit to in the UK. As an accredited Living Wage employer, we put our people first and fight cruel practices like animal testing, promote regeneration, and show that it is what's inside that counts - whether that's an ingredient in a product, or the minerals in a smartphone.

The role
Health and safety and maintenance of the staff, environment, and equipment are pivotal parts of the process to guarantee the smooth running of the business. We are looking for a highly motivated and responsible individual to manage the operation of our industrial steam boilers at our Witney Road and Cowley Road buildings. The individual will play a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency and safety of our boiler operations, which are essential for ensuring that our steam boilers, integral to the production process, operate reliably and comply with all safety regulations and standards.

The manager and their team will be responsible for the start-up, safe operation, and shutdown of boiler systems, overseeing the system essential for producing steam used for heating and processing within the production facility.

Please note: We may close this vacancy early if we receive an overwhelming response or our business requirements change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the steam plant operates efficiently and effectively by monitoring energy and steam flow readings to optimize system performance.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including PSSR, PUWER, HSE, and CEA standards.
  • Complete risk assessments and manage risk mitigation actions promptly.
  • Ensure sufficient, trained staff are available for all shifts in steam-using departments.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the boiler plant, liaising with the Repairs & Maintenance team and external contractors.
  • Supervise boiler operators, ensuring they receive relevant training and certification.
  • Oversee sub-contractors performing work on the boiler system.
  • Manage the Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) and coordinate with inspectors to keep it up to date.
  • Define and maintain operator competencies to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Operate and adjust industrial steam boilers within the manufacturing plant.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor high-integrity controls, gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure optimal and safe boiler operations.
  • Record daily operational logs and report any irregularities to the Maintenance team and Management.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies or operational issues involving the boiler.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance team and Production management to ensure smooth boiler plant operations.
  • Assess risks associated with boiler operations and implement additional measures when necessary to maintain acceptable risk levels.
  • Be prepared to perform duties that may involve working at heights.
  • Oversee and maintain a structured training program for all boiler operators, ensuring it remains updated with evolving technology, equipment, and legislation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience. However, the DipBOM qualification is not essential.

  • Diploma in Boiler Plant Operation Management (DipBOM) or a similar qualification.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience and expertise with shell-type steam boilers.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team.
  • Proactive, highly motivated, and eager to take initiative.
  • Strong ability to learn and develop new skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage daily tasks independently and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, competent, and accountable.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Outstanding planning and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills, with solid knowledge of Excel.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
