The role and what you take care of: (A full Board Member pack, including a summary of the Risk and Audit Committee Chair Member Role Profile, payment and an introduction to Magna Housing is attached to this advert)

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and innovation. They will embody our core values: Always Safe, All About Customers, Be Kind, Own It, One Team, and Be Curious. It is essential for them to act with integrity, uphold high standards, foster a positive organisational culture, lead effective meetings, be thoroughly prepared, and encourage participation. Building robust relationships with board members, colleagues, and external parties through mutual respect is crucial. Clear communication, as well as the ability to influence and translate complex messages for diverse audiences, are key attributes.

What you take care of:

  • Help to define and approve the company strategy, reviewing key risks and opportunities, and making sure the company operates within relevant governance, legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Oversee financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance, working closely with auditors to ensure transparency and mitigate financial risks.
  • Monitor and provide independent views on objectives, budget, business plan and policies.
  • Ensure Magna is a well governed organisation, championing our vision, strategic priorities and embodying our values.
  • Guide discussions, ensure diverse viewpoints are heard and keep meetings focused on key priorities.
What you need to be successful:
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and audit processes.
  • Commercial Acumen: Balanced by an understanding of risk awareness, oversight, and management.
  • Risk Management: Expertise in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to ensure the organisation's stability and compliance.
  • Analytical: Ability to digest large amounts of information, picking out the relevant points and using the information to support strategic decision making.
  • Ethical Judgment: Upholding integrity and ethical standards in all decisions and actions.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with stakeholders, board members, and external auditors.
We very much welcome in and out of sector experience in the above areas. What is equally important is that you are committed to our values, vision, and mission and have a passion for improving services and delivering positive impact. Equality, diversity, and inclusion underpin the improvements we are making, and the Board is leading by example.

Please include the following with your application:
  • A detailed CV of no more than three pages of A4, including details of positions held and dates (including achievements relevant to a non-executive role).
