The role:
Our aim is to continually improve the quality of care we provide to our patients by meticulously and methodically analysing outcome data.
We operate a ‘continuous quality improvement’ model which we accomplish through a number of activities, including: internal quality control, performance and outcomes analysis, interfacing with leaders in the field of vision correction, and producing insightful and high-quality research.
The Biostatistician has responsibility for providing statistical and analytical expertise across Optical Express, devising statistical analysis plans and performing data analysis within Excel and SAS. The results feed into our world renowned International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB), and assists in developing our clinical governance protocol.
You will also be responsible for communicating the methodologies used and the results in both written and oral formats and you will typically be working on several projects at one time, as a result our output is significantly higher than any other ophthalmic business in the world today and we publish more data than any other business or organisation.
The Biostatistician reports to the Clinical Services Director in Glasgow and will work closely with teams across all specialties to ensure any statistical elements of projects are completed to an exceptionally high standard, in a timely fashion and in line with Optical Express expectations.

Produce quarterly Optical Express clinical outcome and patient reported outcome reports with sound statistical integrity based on:
Assist in clinical research projects by performing the following:
Assist in manuscript and presentation preparation by providing biostatistical analyses of data, preparing tables and graphs of results.
Assist in the development of statistical and presentation packages for Optometry, Surgeon and Medical Advisory Board meetings in addition to presentations to be made at conferences and events.
Assist in the development of reports and presentation packages to assess business performance for key stakeholders.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of theoretical and applied statistics and keep abreast of new developments in statistics and regulatory guidance through literature review and attendance at workshops and professional meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ideally we are looking for a degree or equivalent higher qualification in a scientific or mathematical discipline, although a Masters or PhD would be highly advantageous. The ideal candidate will possess good interpersonal skills that enable effective communication with all levels of management.
