Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the busiest and largest NHS foundation trusts in the country, with around 15,000 staff and an annual budget of £1.6 billion. We have a long history of providing high-quality care, clinical excellence, and innovation in medical research regionally, nationally, and internationally. We are in the top five providers of specialised health services in the country, supporting people with a range of rare and complex medical, surgical and neurological conditions, cancers, and genetic orders.
Job Overview
The NIHR Newcastle Clinical Research Facility (NCRF) provides dedicated purpose-built facilities and expertise for the delivery of high-quality, cutting-edge experimental research and early phase clinical trials. In February 2022, we were delighted to be one of the 28 sites across the UK to secure NIHR funding for the next 5 years, with a further 2-year extension granted, which will allow us to continue to develop, grow, and deliver high-quality research across our region. To support this growth, we are now seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Biomedical Technician to oversee our laboratory.
As the dedicated NCRF Biomedical Technician, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the research laboratory, ensuring it runs effectively and safely. This will include processing research samples, ensuring the lab operates within national guidelines and local SOPs, and providing training and technical support to our staff in laboratory procedures and use of equipment. This role will form a key part of our research team to ensure we can provide high-quality clinical samples at the forefront of clinical research.
