Job description

We are seeking a driven Biodiversity Economist for our client who is a leading organization dedicated to advancing biodiversity conservation efforts through sustainable solutions, scientific research, and environmental advocacy. They are passionate about preserving the natural world and supporting initiatives that protect ecosystems, wildlife, and communities. We are seeking a dynamic and driven Biodiversity Economist to help amplify their message and broaden their impact.


As the Biodiversity Economist, you will play a key role in providing technical expertise on natural capital and its relationship with sustainable development, bridging the public-private sector to enhance biodiversity-informed policy and business practices. This role is hybrid in Cambridge.


As the Biodiversity Economist, you will be:
  1. Promoting natural capital approaches including natural capital/ecosystem accounting - especially in relation to the development of methodologies, tools, and mechanisms to enable the incorporation of biodiversity values across public and private sector decision and planning processes.
  2. Developing and promoting more integrated use and management of natural capital, aligning incentives across the social, economic, and environmental pillars of sustainable development.
  3. Supporting the integration of biodiversity values into national accounts, development planning, and corporate sustainability strategies.
  4. Representing the organisation in relevant forums, conferences, and working groups.
  5. Engaging with policymakers, financial institutions, and stakeholders to promote nature-based economic strategies.
  6. Experience developing alliances and partnerships (demonstrated by an extensive network of contacts in the international conservation, business, and/or financial communities).

As the Biodiversity Economist, you will have:
  1. Undergraduate degree and/or master's level qualification, or equivalent experience, in a field related to environmental/ecological economics.
  2. Proven experience working with international organisations, government agencies, or the private sector on topics related to natural capital approaches, ecological or environmental economics, ecosystem accounting, or economic policies Development.
  3. A demonstrated track record in the development and delivery of multiple complex and inter-disciplinary projects.
  4. Experience in overseeing high quality and evidence-based projects.
  5. Experience in managing teams and partner relationships and coaching junior members of staff.
