Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our highly skilled and motivated Pathology Blood Sciences Team at Harrogate & District Hospital as Biochemistry Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Specialist Biochemistry and Training Lead.

The post is for up to 37.5 hours per week (minimum hours would be 30 hrs per week) and would suit anyone who already holds a specialist portfolio in Biochemistry, equivalent qualification or experience (at least 5 years Biochemistry laboratory experience)

Main duties of the jobThe Biochemistry Department has two Beckman AU5800 routine Biochemistry and two Beckman DXI800 Immunoassay analysers, an automate and a DxA FIT and track.
The specialised chemistry section carry out a number of manual and semi manual techniques using the following; Sebia Octa 3, Sebia Hydrasys, Binding Site Optilite, two Tosoh G8s, Advanced Instruments Osmo1, HM-JACKarc, Sherwood chloride analyser, Wescor Sweat conductivity analyser and a Cary 50 Bio spectrophotometer.
Following successful UKAS assessments all sections of Pathology are compliant with ISO15189 standards and fully accredited. The department has excellent IT systems with ICE requesting & reporting, Clinisys Winpath LIMS, and Q Pulse quality management system.
Job responsibilitiesTo assist the discipline specific Clinical Director, Cross Site Service Lead and General Managers in supervising and carrying out the routine work in order to meet Departmental and Organisational objectives within the Biochemistry department.
To manage staffing and technical resource so as to ensure the day to day running of the department.
To assist with the development and implementation of new techniques and working practices.
About usIntegrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture Pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality Pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users. The successful potholder will be employed directly by Harrogate Hospital.
Person SpecificationEssential- HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Biochemistry or equivalent qualification or experience (at least 5 years Biochemistry laboratory experience)
- Relevant post graduate qualification conducive with Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science Status (MSc)
- Experience of Pathology Quality management systems
- Experience of implementing new techniques and technologies
Desirable- Holds a General Management Qualification
- Human Resource management experience and skills
