Job description

Bilingual Education Officer – 18.5 hours per week, term time only, temporary until 31st March 2026.

We wish to appoint a part-time, Bilingual Education Officer (Dari, Pashto & English) for the EAL team to provide support to pupils aged from 3 to 18 yrs speaking Dari/Pashto as their first language and who are learning English as an additional language (EAL) in school.

The EAL team promotes inclusion and equality of opportunity. This post is an excellent opportunity to join a small, high functioning team to focus on supporting Afghan pupils speaking Dari or Pashto who are learning EAL.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?
You will deliver intervention support and collaborate with teaching staff in schools to ensure those Dari/Pashto-speaking pupils at risk of underachievement are supported and monitored. You will work across all key stages, assisting schools with home/ school liaison with pupils and families. Home school liaison and home visits are integral to the post.

This peripatetic post involves working in any school across the county, moving between schools during the day. Independent travel is a requirement to fulfil the duties of the post for which mileage is paid. Within the work, there is a strong focus on safeguarding and reducing inequalities.

You will have 5 GCSEs grades A – C or equivalent.

HYBRID WORKING
Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
