Job description

JustOT are recruiting for an HCPC registered experienced Occupational Therapist Best Interest Assessor, to work with our well-respected client based in Leicestershire.

We are looking for a Best Interest Assessor Occupational Therapist to join our Adult social care team.

The role will include undertaking both Mental Capacity and best interest assessments and coordinating the assessment process under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This will include undertaking DoLS reviews and being placed on the BIA Duty rota 1 day per week, in which you will take telephone calls and respond to email enquiries.
As a Best Interest Assessor, you'll provide effective safeguards for members of the public who fall within the remit of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) legislation by providing a high-quality assessment and advice based on the statutory requirements arising from the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), ensuring compliance with Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Working within relevant policies, practices, and procedures under the direction of your team leader, you'll coordinate the DoLS assessment process within statutory timescales. Recognising safeguarding concerns, you'll act in line with local and national policy to improve outcomes for people.
You'll provide expert advice to ensure an effective and consistent multi-agency approach to DoLS, including provision of training opportunities and support for Best Interest Assessor candidates.
The only requirements to come to an office are for meetings and/or if you are experiencing IT connectivity issues, which would prevent you from undertaking the work. You will be required to drive in order to complete visits for the purpose of assessment throughout Leicester and Leicestershire.
Mileage can only be claimed from the office base to the destination of assessment.

This role will initially be office-based until IT equipment can be sourced to allow candidates to work from home. They will do assessments but will do duty function as well. Two brand new assessments are expected per week and support duty, or 3-5 per week if the assessments have been done before. Most of it would be home-based but would be expected in a few times for different things. Duty function would be from home too but can go in if they want to. Full time role, Mon - Fri, 3 months initially.
