Teacher Active is proud to be working with secondary schools in Walsall that support vulnerable students with Autism and SEMH needs ranging from Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) to Challenging behaviour. The schools cater to children and students with needs such as disruptive behaviour, outbursts of verbal and physical frustration, ADHD and Autism.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be working with students, teachers, and therapists to develop personalized support plans for each student while implementing strategies to de-escalate challenging situations and promote a safe learning environment. You will assist teachers in developing and delivering engaging lessons tailored to each individual student's abilities, learning styles, and needs while frequently carrying out 1:1 and group learning support to students with additional needs. Working with students with SEMH, you will look after their physical, social, and mental welfare by creating a safe environment for them and adapting your teaching support according to the students’ needs.

The schools are looking for a dedicated and passionate SEMH Teaching Assistant that can fill day-to-day, short-term, and long-term placements. They provide an abundance of experience, which can allow you to grow as a teacher while being paid at market-leading rates. The ideal TA / Teaching Assistant should have the following:

  • Level 3 qualified and/or a minimum of 6 months’ experience in an educational establishment
  • A calm, patient, and caring persona
  • A good understanding of child protection and safeguarding guidelines
  • Experience in supporting students in their education on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Effective communication with members of internal staff
