Job description

Behaviour Assistant (1:1 support)
Vale of Glamorgan

Start date: 17th March 2025.
Pay rate: £13-£14 per hour.
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:15am-15:15pm.

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Assistant to provide 1 to 1 support for a pupil with additional learning and behavioural needs in a lovely secondary school in the Vale of Glamorgan area. This role is based within a specialised hub with access to mainstream classes, ensuring the pupil receives the guidance and assistance needed to succeed in their education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the pupil with their schoolwork, ensuring they remain engaged and make progress (secondary aged pupil).
  • Accompany the pupil to lessons and help them navigate the school environment.
  • Assist in regulating their emotions, using appropriate de-escalation strategies.
  • Provide firm but supportive guidance, maintaining clear boundaries while being caring and understanding.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to implement tailored support strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and social interactions with peers.
  • Help create a structured and safe learning environment for the pupil.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, resilient, and confident in managing challenging behaviour.
  • Able to build trusting and supportive relationships while maintaining firm boundaries.
  • Skilled in de-escalation and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Experienced in working with children with SEND and behavioural needs (preferred but not essential).
  • A strong team player, able to communicate effectively with staff and parents.
