Job Description

Our client, an innovative aerospace technology company in the UK is currently looking to hire a Battery Test Technician. The successful candidate will perform and support battery testing above cell level, working with prototype components and high-voltage systems as part of the battery development team.

The Battery Test Technician will:

  • Perform and document battery testing activities, including mechanical, thermal, and electrical performance tests such as long-term electrical cycling, abuse testing, vibration, and climatic testing.
  • Set up, monitor, and shut down tests, including configuring instrumentation and data logging equipment, while ensuring accurate data collection and system diagnostics.
  • Assemble mechanical and electrical components to technical specifications, troubleshoot issues, and maintain high-quality standards throughout all testing procedures.
  • Support the development of risk assessments and standard operating procedures, contributing to a strong safety culture within the battery testing environment.
  • Collaborate with external test facilities and suppliers, assist with test rig design and maintenance, and provide feedback to the design team on test results and process improvements.
  • Conduct battery pack teardowns, inspections, and fault analysis, while maintaining detailed documentation, tracking defects, and supporting report writing and test definitions.

The Battery Test Technician will have:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a high-tech engineering environment.
  • HND / BEng / equivalent on the job training.
  • Previous experience of high voltage live working advantageous.
  • Experience of working with and around HV batteries and batteries testing and an understanding of testing methods, instrumentation/calibration requirements, health and safety considerations and data acquisition.
  • Automotive, industrial or aerospace background.
  • Experience of operating laboratory equipment such as climatic chambers, data loggers (such as Dewesoft, Vector CANalyzer, Vector CANoe, PICO, Lab View), shaker tables, power supplies (High Voltage and Low Voltage)
