Job description

Responsible for the delivery of care and for managing service provision in accordance with national and local priorities, organisation policies, procedures, and guidelines.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Delivering care in accordance with organisation policies, procedures, and guidelines, according to competencies, as delegated by the phlebotomy team lead and locality manager.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking venepuncture from patients in the blood clinic or a domicile community setting home visits. The phlebotomist will be expected to bleed one patient every 8 minutes while working in the clinic.
  • Maintaining the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to deliver a quality service that is responsive to the needs of patients.
  • Using opportunistic opportunities to promote health that will help to maintain a person's health and level of self-care.
  • Reporting any changes in condition of the patient to the Team Leader or, in their absence, the designated Phlebotomist in charge.
  • Completing all documents accurately and with concise information as per local guidelines.
  • Being aware of the Data Protection Act, and following local codes of practice to ensure appropriate action is taken to safeguard confidential information.
  • Recording activity data accurately, ensuring that the deadline for entry onto the computer system is met.

Person Specification

Education/Qualification

  • Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (NVQ/QCF - Level 3) or a recognised equivalent course.
  • Train the Trainer Qualification or willingness to undertake.

Experience

  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
  • Current experience of working in a health or social care setting.
  • Current experience of working under indirect supervision.
  • Experience of working as a Phlebotomist for at least 6 months.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to accurately report and feedback information to colleagues and others both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to assess a situation, identifying any risk or potential problem and act appropriately.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of equal opportunities and apply knowledge to practice.
  • Must be flexible about work location - The post holder will be required to work across CLCH in the event of service issues in other boroughs surrounding Barnet.
  • Must be a car driver and hold a current UK driving licence.
  • Able to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce and deliver a quality service to people from different backgrounds, by including and embracing their varied needs.
  • Application of the Data Protection Act and the principles of patient confidentiality (information governance).
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safeguarding in practice.
  • Knowledge of the SystmOne and SANGIX data entry system.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£14.26 an hour. Weekly pay will include: Basic pay + HCAS + 12.07% Holiday pay.
