Job Overview
University Hospitals Dorset is currently looking to recruit experienced Mental Health Support Workers (MHSW) to join our bank, who are looking to work flexibly across our sites in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. An exciting opportunity has arisen to build a flexible workforce to support patients presenting to UHD with mental health, cognitive or challenging behavioural difficulties.

Advert
As a bank worker, you will be called upon to spend a significant part providing 1-2-1 care covering all aspects focusing on safety for both patients and staff as well as therapeutic intervention. You will also work as part of the wider team supporting colleagues and other healthcare professionals when requested to do so. The post holder will provide outstanding personal and enhanced care to patients needing additional nursing and emotional support in a high stress environment.


This patient group may include but is not limited to:
Mental illness, Dementia, Delirium, Intoxication, Traumatic Brain Injury, Encephalitis, Parkinson's, Specific neurological disease, Brain Tumours.


A level of fitness and ability to complete physical Intervention training and be able to participate in physical Intervention in the workplace as required. Breakaway (with safehold) training will be provided to successful candidates and is a condition of the bank agreement.


Successful candidates must be available to attend the full mandatory trust induction program which will consist of a two-week program (Monday to Friday, consecutively) plus two additional recall days. Dates and locations will be discussed with successful applicants.

Qualifications
Essential criteria

  • Good standard of general education including literacy and numeracy
  • Completion of the National Care Certificate

Experience
Essential criteria

  • Working with patients requiring one to one supervision and care
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective customer care
  • Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing)

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working within mental health care environment/NHS
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with the public

Technical Skills Competencies
Essential criteria

  • Skills in de-escalation of patients with behaviour that challenges
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (to understand and be understood)
  • IT literate
