Job description

Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist in Diabetes

This is an exciting opportunity for a clinical psychologist to develop and enhance their multidisciplinary team working skills within a busy paediatric diabetes team. The post will be based at the Royal Free Hospital and will provide support to the paediatric diabetes team and work individually with children, young people and their families. This will include specialist assessments and brief interventions in outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as supporting service development and supporting the team to meet the requirements for the best practice tariff in paediatric diabetes. The post holder will join another band 7 clinical psychologist in a similar role and will be part of a wider psychology team. As part of this role, the post holder will also have access to local and national network groups, be invited to regular training events and conferences and have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from the same profession.

The ideal post holder will be comfortable working independently and as part of a medical MDT, able to travel between trust sites where necessary, able to promote psychological principles and confident in their own clinical skills. Main duties of the job

To provide a clinical psychology service to patients of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, consistent with the World Class Care Values of the Trust. To provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment and offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures; to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

Hold a clinical caseload of children, young people and families living with diabetes, offering annual reviews, psychological assessments and interventions, and attending MDT clinics.

Provide psychological advice, training and support to colleagues and families as appropriate and engage in joint work, as well as attend multi-disciplinary meetings.

Contribute to service development in line with locally and nationally identified goals.

Attend supervision and keep up to date with CPD.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence. Eligible for Chartership as a clinical Psychologist (BPS)

Experience
  • Experience of working within a clinical psychology service with patients with childhood mental health problems, providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients, including outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Experience of the application of clinical in different cultural contexts
  • Experience in data collection, audit, service evaluation and research methods
  • Experienced in oral presentations, working with people in groups
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of using psychological skills and knowledge in medical settings

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
