Band 7 Mortuary Technician – Locum – Portsmouth

Band: 7
Position: Mortuary Technician
Placement Duration: Ongoing
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30
Rate: £28 – £35 per hour
Location: Portsmouth

Job Purpose:
We are seeking a dedicated Mortuary Technician to join our team. The role involves providing safe and practical assistance to histopathologists in the postmortem room, ensuring the mortuary is maintained in a clean and efficient manner, and adhering to all legal and health regulations pertaining to deceased individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist histopathologists in postmortem examinations, including evisceration, dissection, and organ weighing.
  2. Maintain mortuary hygiene standards and implement disinfection protocols.
  3. Handle and document postmortem specimens with precision and care.
  4. Liaise with external agencies such as funeral directors to ensure smooth collection procedures.
  5. Provide support during forensic postmortems and perinatal examinations.
  6. Train and supervise subordinate personnel in mortuary procedures and safety protocols.

Requirements:

  1. Good communication skills with the ability to interact compassionately with bereaved families.
  2. Strong organisational skills and ability to multitask effectively.
  3. Knowledge of health and safety protocols in handling deceased individuals.
