Job description

Band 6 Student SCPHN School Nurse/Health Visitor

Funded places for the Post Graduate Diploma Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Health Visitor or School Nurse. Make a difference to Children, Young People and Families.

Have you thought about a career as a Health Visitor or School Nurse? The Trust is looking for enthusiastic and innovative Nurses or Midwives to join a forward-thinking service which promotes integrated working with Partner Agencies and actively works to improve outcomes for Children and Families.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current 1st level Registration on the Nursing or Midwifery Register
  • Hold an Undergraduate Honours Degree (First or second class honours) or have evidence of recent Level 7 study.
  • Valid UK driving license and have access to a car. Where necessary, adjustments will be made in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Successful applicants will be employed under an LPT fixed-term contract for the duration of the course from September 2025 until September 2026. Successful applicants will be remunerated as per Agenda for Change Band 6 training annex 21 pay scales during the programme of study. Please ensure you have reviewed Annex 21 pay terms.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Student Health Visitor or School Nurse, you would be working with Healthy Together to deliver a 0-11 service in Leicestershire County and Rutland and a 0-19 service in Leicester city. Clinical placements will be across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, supported by a Practice Supervisor & Assessor. You will experience both city and county placements.

Academic study will be undertaken at the University of Northampton, and there will be a balance of theory and practice learning opportunities. If you wish to be considered, you are required to apply to LPT for sponsorship and secure a place by application to the University separately.

LPT expects to recruit SCPHN students to permanent posts within Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland on the successful completion of the course (subject to vacancies being available). Qualified Health Visitors and School Nurses are appointed to Band 6.

Interviews will be at the University of Northampton Campus, consisting of some tasks that require candidates to achieve a set threshold. If successful in these, you will then have an interview on the same day. You must therefore be prepared to attend for a whole day 08:30-17:00.
