Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities is essential.
  • Registered with HCPC as a Speech and Language Therapist.

Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist

Grade: Band 6

Location: Erlegh House, Reading RG6 6BZ

Ward: CTPLD Reading

Shift Patterns: 37.5 hours Monday to Friday

The Adult Learning Disability Specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team forms part of our BHFT Learning Disability Service working alongside other allied health professionals to provide a high-quality service to those adults with learning disabilities living within Berkshire. The Learning Disability service is a community-based service working within the CTPLDs / Health Teams in the provision of specialist health services across all six localities within Berkshire.

Main duties of the job
  1. Assess, develop and implement Specialist Speech and Language Therapy interventions regarding both communication and dysphagia needs.
  2. Provide appropriate specialist intervention and evaluate outcomes.
  3. Undertake clinical sessions, and manage a caseload as required, offering direct assessment, advice, triage, intervention and training and support.
  4. Provide advice / training to staff, parents/carers regarding the management and care of clients with communication difficulties and dysphagia.
  5. Investigate, interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate clinical diagnosis, evaluation and prognosis as part of the comprehensive assessment of patients, particularly those with a highly complex presentation, and to recommend the best course of intervention.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience working with people who have learning disabilities.
  • UK work experience; NHS experience would be preferable but not essential.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Speech and Language Therapist, registered with HCPC.
