Healthshare would like to recruit a well-motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our North West London service. If you are seeking a role where you will be assessing and treating a varied caseload of patients and delivering MSK clinics within the community, you might be exactly who we're looking for!

We have the existing opportunity to appoint an MSK Physiotherapist who will be responsible for treating a variety of MSK conditions, within a large and exciting new service. The successful candidate will be an HCPC & CSP registered Physiotherapist with a B.Sc. Physiotherapy.

To be considered you must have a flexible, adaptable and innovative approach to work and be able to proactively deliver results. Our Physiotherapists are expected to maintain their own electronic patient records (SystmOne), deliver a high standard of patient-centred clinical care, possess a friendly and approachable attitude and apply outstanding team-working, communication and organisational skills to their daily practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess and treat own caseload of patients who may have complex presentations, and maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To treat musculoskeletal out-patients who present with: a variety of acute and chronic pain patterns; significant physical impairments due to pain or injury; psychological issues; post-operative rehabilitation requirements. And to ensure effective communication where this is impaired due to pain and/or fear.
  • A high standard of clinical work is required which will also include active participation in clinical teaching and in-service training sessions.

Job responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Clinical

  • To be responsible for a defined area of working e.g., a section of a specialty, or a particular type of patient, working without direct supervision. Clinical / professional supervision takes the form of direct observation of practice or formal training / clinical reasoning sessions; advise and support is always available. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
  • To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, and to adhere to Healthshare equipment policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training and supervision of practice.
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills.
  • To formulate an individualised physiotherapy management and / or treatment plan, using clinical reasoning skills and utilising a wide range of treatment skills e.g., manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, electrotherapy, exercise classes, and alternative options in order to formulate a specialised programme of care.
  • To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of condition. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation, and gaining informed consent will be used with a wide variety of patients. Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident e.g., loss of hearing, altered perception, pain, fear.
  • To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

Professional

  • To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them as necessary into your work and to be an active member of the in-service training programme by the attendance and presentation at staff meetings, tutorials, training sessions, external courses and reflective practice.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
  • Training, supervision and performance management of junior staff with assistance from more senior members of the physiotherapy team. This will include the use of formal appraisal documentation.
  • Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of Evidence Based Practice projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually or with more senior physiotherapists. To make recommendations for change.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply to work situation and take part in regular staff appraisal.

Organisational

  • To assist operations manager with local clinical operational issues and actively involved in the collection of appropriate data and statistics.
  • Be aware of the Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies which may be required to improve the safety of your work area, including the prompt recording and reporting of accidents to senior staff, and ensuring that equipment used is safe.
  • Any other duties which might be considered appropriate by the Clinical Lead for MSK Services. General.
  • As a term of your employment within Healthshare, you can be required to undertake such other duties commensurate with your grade / band and / or hours of work at your initial place of work or at any other of the organisations establishments, as may be reasonably required of you.

All staff regardless of whether clinical or not are expected to comply with current infection control policies and procedures and to report any problems with regard to this to their managers. All staff undertaking patient care activities must attend infection control training and updates as required by Healthshare.

Familiarisation with and adherence to Healthshare's Safeguarding Children and Adult policies is an essential requirement for all employees as is the participation in related mandatory/statutory safeguarding training.
  • All of the above activities are governed by the operational policies, standing financial instructions, policies and procedures and standards of Healthshare, as well as legislation and professional standards and guidelines.
  • Post-holders are required to contribute to the organisations performance against those aspects of the Assurance and Regulatory Frameworks pertaining to their role and to supply evidence of compliance with standards/targets.

Person Specification

Health and Fitness

  • Physical capacity to deal with moderate physical effort on a daily basis.

  • Capacity to concentrate for considerable periods of time during assessment and management of patients and be expected to respond immediately to interruptions.

Experience

  • Minimum two years postgraduate experience.

Qualifications

  • Diploma and Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registration with HCPC & CSP.
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses and CPD.
  • Relevant validated clinical courses.
