Band 6 - Medical Education Fellow, Corporate

The Watford Medical Education Department is looking for two Medical Education Fellows to support the delivery of Medical Students' curriculum for UCL and Brunel universities respectively.

The post holder(s) will be an integral part of the team and will play a key role in identifying and delivering ever-evolving curriculum requirements.

The role involves teaching students from Brunel University, University College of London, St Georges Medical School (Grenada) & University of Hertfordshire as well Foundation Doctors.

We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, who is a team player with a passion for medical education.

The post will be based in the Education Centre at Watford General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To support, plan, deliver and promote teaching of a variety of clinical skills for Medical Students.

The post holder will also support the multi-professional training programme and be an active part of the Simulation Faculty, West Herts Initiative in Simulation Education and Research (WiSER).

This will form 3 days of the role and the other 2 days will be based doing clinical work in a department at WHHT (CT1/F3 Equivalent) and will be identified following interview and discussions with the successful candidate.

They will be allocated 2 days of Clinical Skills teaching a week, a 1-day contribution to the Simulation Programme and 2 days of Clinical work in a speciality at WHHT to be agreed at appointment.

There will be no on call responsibilities as the post will be supernumerary.

The Clinical placement is optional and can be negotiated.

Job responsibilities

To effectively develop and use a variety of teaching materials and delivery models for use within the clinical skills facilities.

To assist with the preparation and organisation of clinical examinations for students.

Support and assist the Medical Education Team and the teaching consultants in the overall management and co-ordination of the students teaching programmes and clinical experience.

Support and assist the Simulation Faculty in organising and facilitating simulation sessions where this does not act in conflict with obligations to the Medical Education Team.

Ensure own clinical skills are updated in line with the requirements of the post / profession.

To assist the Medical School in the delivery of the Formative Mock OSCE, end of year OSCE exams and Summative History Examinations.

To support the delivery of key postgraduate learning opportunities and examinations including PACES, Procedural Skills and Comets.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications:

  • GMC Registered Doctor (post F2).
  • Further qualification in medical education or training.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of issues and developments in Medical Education specifically Undergraduates and Foundation Year Training
  • Knowledge of Clinical Skills Equipment.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Skills Equipment or willingness to learn.

Experience:

  • Teaching clinical skills in a clinical setting.
  • Experience of working in multi-professional clinical teams.
  • Experience of team working.
