An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Elective Orthopaedic Therapy Team as a Band 6 Physiotherapist at Chase Farm Hospital, within the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

The team is made up of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers. As a senior member of the team you will work across the elective surgical ward and the day of surgery unit. You will be working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure excellent patient care throughout the patient journey, in line with the principles of enhanced recovery.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will be expected to manage their own clinical caseload effectively, by utilising a high level of clinical reasoning, organisational and prioritisation skills. They must be flexible to fluctuating priorities, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be able to demonstrate efficient and effective discharge planning. They will need to apply excellent communication skills with MDT colleagues, including attending daily MDT and other meetings.

The successful candidate will be required to teach, supervise and appraise junior staff and students, whilst being supported by highly experienced band 7 therapists. You will also be expected to have an active role in developing the Elective Orthopaedic service.

This is a fixed term, full time (37.5 hour) position. The post holder will also be required to work bank holidays and weekends, in line with the department's 7-day working policy.

Job responsibilities

• To undertake a role in the day-to-day management of patients on the elective orthopaedic ward and day of surgery unit.
• To provide specialist assessment and treatment to patients who may have complex and or chronic conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
• To work with patients and their families or carers to provide excellent individualised patient centred care.
• To actively participate in the planning of complex discharges.
• To work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a co-ordinated multi-disciplinary service. This will include initiating and participating in case conferences, MDT meetings and ward rounds.
• To supervise, teach and appraise more junior members of staff and students.
• To participate in Continuing Professional Development and quality improvement projects that will enhance the therapy service.

Person Specification

Education and Professional Qualifications

• HCPC registration
• Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Membership of Special Interest Group e.g AGILE, BOA, ATOCP

Experience

• Experience in a broad rotational post including respiratory, neurology, orthopaedics and rehabilitation
• Experience of discharge planning processes with complex patients
• Experience of effective MDT working
• Experience of working in a Band 6 post
