Job overview

Poppy Unit is a 20 bedded mixed acute unit located in the heart of Wiltshire. We work with a range of service users who are presenting as acutely unwell and in crises.

We are looking for professional and enthusiastic nurses to come and work with our wonderful team of qualified nurses, HCA's, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Specialists, Activities Coordinators, and Doctors.

As a Band 6 Nurse you will be expected to co-ordinate shifts, risk assess, show clinical leadership, and implement Quality Improvement projects, as well as acting up into the band 7 role in the absence of a band 7. Skilled management and clinical work within Poppy Ward can be rewarding. You will receive regular supervision within the team.

Main duties of the job
  • To carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for patients is provided.
    This will include:
    1. Undertaking a comprehensive, person-centred, nursing assessment and prepare care plans in consultation with the service users to provide the best nursing care.
    2. Implementation of care and rehabilitation programmes.
    3. Evaluation of effectiveness of care provided in partnership with users.
    4. Ability to implement research-based practice.
    5. Following successful completion of preceptorship, ability to supervise junior and unqualified staff.
    6. Ability to administer medicine within relevant Trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010 and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
    7. Ability to undertake risk assessment and develop risk management strategies for individual clients; ICPA/SAP to people who present with mental health problems.
    8. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant mental Health Legislation.
    9. Ensure the ordering, storage, administration, and disposal of medication complies with relevant trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and MHA (1983).
