Job Overview

This post will suit a newly or recently qualified podiatrist or one who already has experience, who is enthusiastic, motivated, and ready to join our friendly team. Would you love to continue developing your skills in all areas of podiatry including routine treatments, high risk and ulcer care, biomechanics, nail surgery and more? This is a great opportunity to develop your post graduate skills and to build on your current skills.

You will be given the opportunity to work through a competency programme during a preceptorship period of one year. As well as a full induction programme we will also offer regular supervision sessions. Our aim is that you will become one of our band 6 Podiatrists.

You will be providing care within health centres, community hospitals, patient’s homes, and care homes along with the opportunity to experience working within the acute hospital setting on wards and the MDT diabetic foot clinic.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)

The post holder will work as a team member for Leicestershire NHS Partnership Trust Podiatry Service across different clinical sites as per the needs of the service. You will be part of a preceptorship programme for one year with the aim that you will progress to band 6 in six months and be able to work alone.

You Will Be Working In Patient’s Homes, Health Centres, Community Hospitals, Residential And Nursing Homes To Assess, Diagnose, Plan, Implement, And Evaluate Treatment For a Variety Of Patients With a Wide Range Of Complex Clinical Needs Including:

1. Diabetes and vascular disease
2. Rheumatology
3. Biomechanical conditions
4. Acute and chronic wound management

You will also provide education and self-management advice to patients and/or their relatives and carers, including signposting to non-NHS providers of foot care.

You Will Be Expected To (list Is Not Exhaustive)

• To identify when patients require the intervention of another professional and/or advanced podiatrist.
• To carry out simple biomechanical assessment in general podiatry clinics, which will include prescription and fitting of simple chair-side orthoses, advice on exercise and stretching programmes, footwear advice.
• To carry out simple diabetic foot assessment providing appropriate advice.
• Undertake nail surgery.
• Responsible for ordering, maintenance, and security of stock.
• To maintain clinical records to a professional standard in SystmOne, ensuring all activities are recorded in a timely fashion.
• To follow departmental policies, procedures and guidelines but have the discretion to make own clinical decisions within professional boundaries.
• To have the capability to safely handle patients who may be immobile, wheelchair or bed-bound often in confined spaces.
• Under supervision initially, sharp debride diabetic foot ulcers, providing complex wound care, applying appropriate dressings, and offloading.
• Ensure that any complaints are dealt with in a timely manner and where appropriate pass on to your line manager.
• Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, and carers.
• To be flexible and provide cover for other Podiatrists at short notice or during periods of absence, which may be at any site.
• To actively take part in clinical supervision and team meetings.
