We have 2 posts available:

  • A full-time role working 37.5 hours a week
  • A part-time role working 17.5 hours a week

Main Duties of the Job

Post Holders must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, demanding workload, and high-risk environment. The Post Holders will work collaboratively with Clinical Staff and the practice manager to ensure the implementation of the Medical Facility aims and objectives in accordance with Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) policies and procedures. They will be expected to be proactive in identifying areas that could be changed and initiating necessary improvements.

The Post Holders will have a major impact in promoting a positive image of the Medical Centre to patients and unit representatives as well as outside agencies, and so must maintain an appropriate and professional standard of appearance, attitude, and confidentiality.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities for these roles include, but are not limited to:

  • To provide a Pharmacy dispensing service for the medical facility and across Portsmouth Combined Medical Practices (PMX) to entitled personnel.
  • To be the Drug Safety Notice Lead, to inform and publish all notices to patients and personnel.
  • To be the Medication Lead, ensuring competent trained personnel are utilising the correct formularies as appropriate.
  • To order, receipt, account and disposal for all medicines and dispensary items through use of the Contract Purchasing.
  • To maintain and develop knowledge and skills through Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

All employees joining the Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is a security check.

Access to the NHS pension scheme is available to the successful candidate.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • National Vocational Qualification (Level 3 NVQ) in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC)
  • Grand parenting PLUS other additional training for checking dispensed prescriptions without further reference.
  • Registered to General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Familiarity with practice (IT) Information Technology systems.
  • Familiarity with procedures for procurement of medical supplies from wholesalers and other agencies.
