We are seeking enthusiastic, hard-working dental nurses to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing Team.

We currently have 2 vacancies available for a Band 4 Dental Nurse:

• 22.5 hours / 0.6 WTE / Working days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Based in the Birmingham locality at the Attwood Green Health Centre.
• 7.5 hours / 0.2 WTE / Working day: Friday. Based in the Birmingham locality at the Northfield Health Centre.

To work flexibly within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and Community Dental Services (CDS) including Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required.

Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Dental Services and provide chair-side assistance to clinicians within the dental service, as well as carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure the efficient operation of the clinic/department.

Main duties of the job

• Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
• Prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post-operative instructions as required.
• Undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.
• Ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
• Provide chair-side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
• Provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
• Assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.
• Support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.
• Support and supervise all apprentice nurses, undergraduate groups.

Person specification

Qualifications/Training

• Professional Registration with General Dental Council.
• Hold a post-registration qualification certificate or equivalent, and provide evidence of continual professional development, where relevant.
• Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or equivalent.

Skills/Knowledge

• Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry.
• Significant evidence of continued professional development relevant to the Specialty.
• Demonstrate experience of supporting undergraduates and post-registration staff to deliver high quality patient care and achieve their required educational standards.
• Evidence service quality improvement bringing about improved patient outcomes.
• Evidence informal and formal assessment experience in an educational or healthcare environment.
