Job description

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic neuro-rehabilitation assistant to work with our highly skilled team at the Pulross Centre in Brixton. The role centres around delivering intensive rehabilitation programmes to patients following brain injury, stroke and spinal cord injury under the guidance of qualified therapists.

Applicants should have experience of working with adults with disabilities, ideally in a healthcare setting. The post holder will be required to support service development and provide some administrative support to the team.

This position would suit individuals keen to develop skills in therapeutic management in the rehabilitation of neurological conditions and general rehabilitation principles and interventions.

The Rehab Assistant plays a vital role in offering patients a high level of intensity of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy, according to individual needs. The successful applicant needs to enjoy working in a team, be enthusiastic about promoting independence in patients, and be flexible to meet the changing demands of the neurological population. Patients remain on the unit for up to 12 weeks and receive goal-oriented rehabilitation. Interventions include gym-based and ward-based sessions, community access, home visits, kitchen tasks and personal care tasks.

This team is exclusively based at the Pulross Centre, and provides specialist inpatient neuro rehab to patients following life-changing neurological injuries. Common conditions we treat include traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury.

At the Pulross Centre in Brixton we are proud of our good reputation and the feedback that we receive from our patients and their families. We work closely with our nursing colleagues to promote delivery of a 24-hour approach to the rehabilitation experience. As well as providing daily therapy to match the standards for our designation as a 2B service, we provide group therapy programmes, self-directed activities and emphasis on self-management and self-efficacy. There is also a patient-accessible garden providing the opportunity for activities and relaxation.

Our service is based in the heart of Brixton and offers 6 bed-based neuro rehabilitation beds for adults with neurological conditions that live primarily in Lambeth and Southwark. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of a Rehabilitation Consultant, a Clinical Manager, a Clinical Psychologist and Psychology Assistant, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, a Speech and Language Therapist, Rehabilitation Assistant, Social Workers and the Nursing team. There is also a GP visiting the ward who provides invaluable support. Our team works closely together to provide a high quality, client-centred, goal-focused, efficient, responsive and intensive service for our patients.
