Job description

We are working to recruit a Band 3 Chef to work within the NHS in Reading!

Salary: £13.50 per hour
*may be negotiable dependent on experience

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook high-quality meals in accordance with dietary requirements, including special diets and allergies, while adhering to NHS guidelines and standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the catering team to plan menus that meet nutritional needs and cater to diverse dietary requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen area, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Monitor and control food wastage, implementing strategies to minimise waste and maximise efficiency.
  • Assist in stock control, ordering, and receiving deliveries, ensuring adequate supplies are maintained.
  • Provide support during busy periods, including assisting with food service and cleaning duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a chef in a similar role, preferably within a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Proficiency in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, including special dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-free options.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as required.
