Job summary
We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our surgical team with a focus on enhanced perioperative care. This brand-new post offers the unique opportunity to develop both clinical and leadership skills. The role primarily involves working within Enhanced Perioperative Care (EPOC) and surgical wards based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with occasional remote support for Solihull Hospital.
You will deliver high-quality clinical patient care and support the operational delivery of pharmacy services to critically ill surgical patients. In addition, you will be actively involved in their perioperative care. The role will require close collaboration with medical, nursing, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure exceptional patient care through medicines optimisation.
You will have the chance to enhance your expertise in areas such as providing education sessions, undertaking governance tasks, supporting with medicines expenditure reporting, and guideline development.
Previous experience in hospital pharmacy is essential and you will be supported with in-house teaching and training to support your growth.

To partake in specialised clinical pharmacy duties on the Surgery wards, ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertaken. Being able to manage level 2 (high dependency unit) patients.
To assist in providing a specialist pharmaceutical service to specialist tertiary services including the provision of education and training, procedures, protocols, and medicines usage information.
To ensure that through the provision of pharmacy services and advice to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals, there is safe and effective use of medicines. To develop effective working relationships, to challenge and to prioritise your own work as well as the work of the team.
The postholder is required to provide leadership and CDG/service support roles.
To take part in the support of pharmacy out-of-hours service (first on-call duties).
To support junior staff in the department.
To take full part in clinical/dispensary rota, weekend rota and bank holiday duties.
To be able to provide occasional support to Solihull Hospital with prior notice.
