As part of its Digital Transformation journey, First Hawaiian Bank aims to continuously improve its range of data-driven financial guidance and digital services for its customers and digitize and streamline its operations and reporting. To support the execution of this strategy and address the associated legal, regulatory, and operational risks, the Data Governance team collaborates with various business units across the Bank and ensures that sound practices are in place across the enterprise to govern key data assets.
Within the Risk Management Group, the Enterprise Data Steward supervises the team responsible for managing the Enterprise Data Governance Program (“the Program”). The Program’s goal is to ensure the Company’s data is trustworthy by implementing sound practices across the enterprise to govern key data elements. This includes setting standards (Policy Making), partnering and collaborating with various business units across the Bank (Advisory), and measuring and reporting the risks (Oversight).
Key responsibilities of the Enterprise Data Steward include:
- Leading the Data Governance team
- Developing and maintaining Data Governance policies and procedures
- Coordinating the activities of the Data Governance team, Business Data Stewards & Technology teams across the Bank to implement the Program activities and promote sound data management practices
- Overseeing data quality across the Bank
- Validating that the Program complies with regulatory requirements
- Consolidating risks and reporting quarterly to oversight committee
Key Responsibilities:
- Policy Making: Develop the company’s Data Governance Policy and supporting standards and procedures. Main subjects include:
- Data Quality
- Metadata Management
- Master data & Reference data Management
- Advisory: Drive the Data Governance Program, set expectations proportionate to the risk and collaborate with stakeholders from across the company’s divisions to:
- Educate & raise awareness
- Respond to solicitations from front-line businesses and help them implement the Policy
- Prepare & Facilitate the Data Governance Advisory Committee “DAC” and ensure engagement from key stakeholders into the Program
- Oversight: Ensure compliance with the Policy & relevant regulation
- Oversee the inventory and adequacy of front-line controls and second-level controls through periodic assessments
- Consolidate material data anomalies and the progress resolution plan
- Address any outstanding audit or regulatory findings
- Develop advanced oversight metrics, monitoring boards and reports
- Monitor regulatory developments and update the Policy & Program accordingly
- Report to the Enterprise Risk Committee on the company’s data risk and state of the Data Governance Program
- Supervises the Data Governance Team
- Hires, trains and develops direct reports
- Evaluates performance and provides feedback
- Fosters collaboration within and outside the team
- Sets vision and long-term strategy to continuously improve the Program reach and effectiveness
- Continuous Improvement: Apply critical thinking and stay abreast of technology developments to continuously strengthen standards and practices
- Perform hands-on reviews of current processes and practices; and identify improvement areas
- Collaborate with front-line teams and other risk management functions to identify and address inefficiencies
- Stay abreast of industry trends by attending forums and developing professional network
- Embrace change, experiment, and test ideas
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $120,000 – $145,000 / annually; commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be hired for the level of the position that aligns with their experience.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM (hours may vary)
Hybrid schedule option is available for this role
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economic, finance, IT, related field, or equivalent directly related experience required
- Master’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, statistics or related discipline preferred
- Solid understanding of data management, data administration and information resources management as demonstrated by certification as a data management professional (CDMP), or equivalent experience
- Experience in Cross-functional/Cross-company, Customer Relational Management projects is preferred
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of customer master data elements, processes, and organizational support models is preferred
- 5+ years in Financial Services industry
- 5+ years in Risk Management or Audit roles, preferably including some in Data Governance
- 3+ years in Information Technology with an emphasis on Data or Information Resource Management
- Must have experience multiple full project lifecycles from business development to final delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing, business requirement proposals, client interaction and methodology documentation
- Solid organizational skills with ability to handle complex projects in a multi-tasking environment and meet deadlines with quality results
- Thoroughness, attention to detail and excellent follow-through
- Able to work independently and proactively to take initiative to solve problems quickly
- Able to handle confidential matters judiciously
