Job description

Role: Account Manager Unilever

Department/Team: Audio Visual

Role Objective

The Account Manager role will support the Account Director and Business Director in the team in both buying and managing the buying for the specific business units within the Unilever team. As well as buying, you will be responsible for the team’s planning of AV campaigns from start to finish. This will entail building close relationships with the team, department, media owners, internal planning teams, and clients. The role covers TV, Video, Radio, and Cinema.

You will be part of a small team of 11 working closely together to meet Unilever’s media requirements across 2 of the 5 Business Units. The Business Units are: Homecare, Ice Cream, Beauty and Wellbeing, Personal Care, and Nutrition. Iconic brands include Persil, Magnum, Tresemme, Sure 72 Hour Non Stop, and Marmite. You will be most likely responsible for Homecare and Nutrition specifically, although from time to time, you may be asked to work on other Business Units AV Buying.

Unilever is a major advertiser in the UK, regularly appearing in the Top 10 advertisers in the country. Their desire is to be at the forefront of media innovation. It is important that we try and progress this in AV by establishing the right media owner relationships as well as the right trading frameworks.

About the role
BUYING AND PLANNING
  • Manage setup and monitor delivery of AV campaigns.
  • Ensure all AV bookings across all media are accurately implemented.
  • Make sure you and your Account Executive are keeping all front sheets for relevant campaigns up to date.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the AV marketplace with a keen eye on testing new and innovative AV media channels.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all AV tools and processes – including Media Ocean, Caria, TechEdge.
  • Collate and present mid-campaign reports and campaign results both internally and externally, working closely with other disciplines within the agency.
  • Help Account Director with AV planning and help construct AV responses for your brands.
  • Strong working knowledge of all the GroupM AV tracking software and keep these up to date and accurate.
  • Deliver against Unilever’s key AV campaign KPIs.
  • Understand deal parameters within both Mindshare and GroupM and their impact on planning/buying targets.
CLIENT MANAGEMENT
  • Ensure all client requests are met and manage client expectations.
  • Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the client industry sector and competitor behaviour.
  • Understand your client’s business and always present in a professional manner to the client.
  • Present client documents.
  • Understand and deliver all buying guarantees that Mindshare is contracted to deliver on Unilever’s business.
  • Ensure proper process is followed in relation to Unilever approval compliance protocols ensuring full plan approval/purchase order receipt before campaigns go live.
INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Establish an understanding of how AV fits into the overall marketing mix.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with the other Unilever teams within Mindshare such as Connections Planning to deliver an integrated service to Unilever.
  • Work collaboratively with and support your Account Director and Business Director to ensure all Mindshare and Unilever client objectives are met.
  • Managing and prioritising your workload and your Account Executive’s.
  • Help manage your Account Executive through check-ins and appraisals.
  • Display strong attention to detail and quality control with both your own output and the output of your executives.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
  • Develop strong relationships with relevant media owners at an appropriate level.
  • Be part of a coordination team.
  • Develop relationships with necessary external agencies on relevant client businesses to ensure an integrated approach (e.g. creative agency).
  • Be an effective ambassador for Mindshare in all dealings.
About you
  • A solid understanding of planning and buying AV media.
  • Ability to develop and pass on this knowledge to junior team members.
  • A high degree of literacy and ability to communicate effectively both in writing and over the phone.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to problem solve, and a pro-active attitude.
