Job description

The Hardware Automation and Validation Engineer will work within a cross-functional team on new product development and research and development projects. The successful engineer will be responsible for the system integration, development, and validation of all Azenta Life Science store products.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Integrating/configuring and developing system solutions which include automation and robotics equipment.
  2. Configuring hardware and software to complete various verification tests at the device level, including sub-assemblies.
  3. Carrying out various tests from component level to full system life cycle tests to assess their reliability and suitability.
  4. Serving as the primary technical interface (automation and validation specialist) within a cross-functional development team, providing support to Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Software departments.
  5. Supporting and validating any quality investigations.
  6. Working within a team or under their own initiative.
  7. Creating and maintaining engineering documentation of test results for analysis.
  8. Defining processes and test procedures.

The Position:

Based in Irlam, Manchester. Occasional international site travel may be required for training, investigation, or support, but this will be very infrequent. General supervision of work with assignments that require a thorough and practical knowledge of the technical or business discipline. May be assigned larger projects as part of the product development or continuous improvement process. Training will be provided for the right individual.


The Candidate:

  1. Experience working within an automation industry or similar role.
  2. Servo motion control experience is not compulsory as training will be provided.
  3. Logical thinking and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  4. Willingness to learn and tackle new technologies.
  5. Excellent PC skills and report writing skills, predominantly in Excel and Word.
  6. Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  7. An ability to record actions step by step in order to retrace steps when an issue is found.
  8. Proficient with tools, systems, and procedures required by the work.
