Summary of the role
We are currently seeking to recruit a flexible and adaptable Autism and ADHD mentor to join our highly skilled and committed mentoring team. This role involves delivering specialist and tailored one-to-one mentoring to disabled students studying at The University of Exeter. The role supports students in their academic progression, promoting strategies for independent learning and self-management. The team is part of the University's Wellbeing and Welfare Service, which also includes our Mental Health, Psychological Therapies team, AccessAbility and Welfare service.
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join an innovative service, allowing you to develop your skills and engage in inclusive new projects. You will be a skilled and experienced practitioner who has a thoughtful and adaptable approach to your work, as well as a real interest in managing challenging situations while sensitively supporting students. It’s essential you have relevant experience and professional qualifications to be familiar with current issues regarding support for neurodiverse students as you will primarily work with autistic students. In all circumstances, you must meet the DSA DfE Mandatory Criteria for Band 4 Specialist Mentor.
The role involves close liaison and joint working across the Wellbeing Service to support students with a range of disabilities alongside liaison with other university staff and external agencies (e.g., GP, statutory mental health services and voluntary sector agencies). You will also be committed to the advancement of inclusive practice and widening access to this important student community.
A DBS Check will need to be completed.
Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
