Responsibilities

This role is critical to Berkley Industrial Comp’s (BIN) underwriting department. The Associate Underwriter will assist underwriters with reviewing, documenting and preparing renewal files and quotes. The Associate Underwriter will work with the underwriting team to successfully renew business and help meet our retention goals. The role requires individuals to be a team player and work in conjunction with our underwriting department to review, quote, issue and retain business. The Associate Underwriter will learn all facets of the underwriting job and be trained to be an Underwriter. This position will be granted underwriting authority under a defined parameter and may work within their underwriting team to quote and bind business.

The Associate Underwriter will work, as needed, to support the Business Engagement Department, as business needs arise. Time spent between Underwriting and Business Engagement will fluctuate month to month and as such, the Associate Underwriter must possess a positive attitude to help whenever and wherever is needed. The Associate Underwriter will report to the Director of Underwriting; however, both the Business Operations Manager and the Director of Underwriting may assign tasks as needed.

Key functions include but are not limited to :

  • Identify monthly renewals and proactively work with underwriters to prepare renewal quotes
  • Where appropriate, prepare BRAT models for renewal quotes
  • Other tasks, projects and initiatives set forth by the Director of Underwriting
  • Review, quote and bind renewal business
  • Prepare pertinent renewal information to include Experian data, SAFER data, OSHA data, claims data, RAMP data, and pricing data
  • Underwriting authority for small policies between $10k-25k on renewal business with oversight from the Underwriter in which the Associate Underwriter will work with
  • Prepare HAMOGRAK documentation form for renewal files
  • Prepare BRAT loss modeling
  • Collaborate with BIN’s UW team to propose renewal pricing quotes
  • Other underwriting tasks and projects as needed
  • Assist as needed with Business Engagement tasks as workloads require
  • Communicate with the Business Operations Manager and Business Engagement team members to ensure excellent customer service is maintained
  • Conduct risk exposure research relating to submissions
  • Maintain a strong industry knowledge on Workers Compensation line of business
  • Learn to leverage worker's compensation underwriting expertise to assess risks to underwrite policies

Qualifications
