Associate Specialist Doctor

Priory Hospital Kemple View is a 90-bedded hospital set in the beautiful Ribble Valley, offering rehabilitation and recovery (R&R) and secure services for adult males. We support people with a mental health condition and/or a personality disorder.

We are seeking an Associate Specialist Doctor to join our team of 4.7 consultants. You will work within a well-established and cohesive multi-disciplinary team.

As an Associate Specialist Doctor, you will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide continuous medical cover on a daily basis to the patients on the ward. Alongside the Consultant, you will care for up to 28 patients, referred to the unit usually from local NHS trusts. During working hours, you will be responsible for patients and reviewing their mental/physical well-being.

Assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis, and treatment under Consultant supervision for each patient will be reassessed at a frequency appropriate to their individual clinical needs and sufficient to monitor changes and make timely modifications to the treatment plan.

Our treatments are recovery-focused and provided by an experienced multidisciplinary team. We offer a range of specific therapeutic programs and a variety of occupational therapy activities, both hospital and community-based.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Full GMC registration
2. Fulfilling the role of Approved Clinician to patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
3. 12 months’ adult psychiatry experience
4. Relevant experience within a similar setting (preferred)
5. Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (preferred)
6. Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
7. The ability to interview, assess, and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes
8. Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews, and the development of a therapeutic milieu
9. Maintaining CPD and re-validation requirements, as determined by the Royal College of Psychiatrists or other relevant statutory bodies.

Desirable:

1. Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists, Physicians, General Practitioners or equivalent.
