Job description

We seek to appoint an Associate Professor/Professor in Computer Science with significant competence in applications of Artificial Intelligence, particularly in the context of cyber security. Applicants should have a track record of publications and academic achievement to complement the research in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, and the ability to lead in the disciplines of Computer Science and AI, broadly, but preferably in the applications related to cyber security.

This is a career-defining opportunity for an ambitious academic who will extend the School's already strong research and teaching portfolio in these fields by liaising actively with the newly established Knowledge Exchange and Research Institute, KERI - one pillar of which is cyber security.

While this position is fixed-term for 4 (four) years, it provides a full range of opportunities and tools to facilitate substantive career development and a platform for contributing to this cross-disciplinary field through research activities, publications, and an impact on both industry and society at large.

An effective communicator, you will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely-related area and an appropriate HE teaching qualification, such as FHEA, in addition to an established and rich research profile.

You will make a strong contribution to the profile of the School through demonstrable excellence and leadership in research and teaching. You will work with a team of talented lecturers to deliver vibrant, relevant education to your students, using modern pedagogic approaches to develop their profiles - as part of the University's progressive, award-winning Future Skills concept, leading in the HE sector - which permeates all our courses and delivery.

The School is a close-knit college of academics with strengths in broad computing disciplines, exemplified by its internationally recognised research in AI, computer vision, and machine learning, as well as in networks and cyber security. The School hosts an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education, ACE-CSE, with a Silver Award by the NCSC since 2021.

We offer high-quality courses focused on applied computer science, cybersecurity, games, and digital media, reflecting the needs of business and industry. Our courses are strengthened by active collaborations with industry as well as educational and research partnerships. The University was awarded a TEF Gold Award for its excellence in education provision - to which the School of Computer Science and Mathematics contributed significantly.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 4 years.

In-person interviews are expected to be held at the beginning of May 2025.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Vesna Brujic-Okretic, Head of School, and Dr James Denholm-Price, Head of Department, Computer Science.
