Job description

Associate - Medical Negligence - Manchester/Liverpool

We're a national law firm with a local reach. Our philosophy is 'we're legal and financial experts that care' - something you'll find in the way we work with our clients and how we support our teams. But we're more than just a law firm - we're a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life's ups and downs. Working here you'll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment.

We'll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

We are currently looking to add a talented Associate to our leading Medical Negligence team to be based in the North West working out of our Manchester and/or Liverpool offices (hybrid working).

As the leading clinical and medical negligence law firm in the UK, we know how to make a positive difference to our clients lives. Our experienced medical negligence solicitors take the time to understand what clients are going through, helping them get the answers and compensation they deserve.

Your Role

You'll provide quality legal advice to the firm's clients by managing your own complex caseload from the outset. Your aim will be to obtain interim payments wherever possible, so that we can put rehabilitation, a care package and suitable accommodation in place before the claim is concluded. As a team, we are dedicated to improving the quality of life of our clients.

You'll join a Partner led Medical Negligence team based in the North West.

What You'll Be Doing

  1. Managing your own caseload including litigated cases, while also assisting the Partners and senior team members on high value cases.
  2. Providing supervision to junior members of the team.
  3. Taking instructions from clients and giving consistently accurate technical legal advice whilst providing support to clients throughout.
  4. Review cases and other relevant matters with supervisor to ensure quality legal advice is provided.

About You

  1. 5yrs+ PQE in Clinical Negligence with mainly Claimant experience.
  2. Experience of handling your own cases, including your own litigated cases.
  3. A clear enthusiasm for this area of law and a commitment to securing the best outcomes for your clients.
  4. An ability to work with empathy and integrity.
  5. Experience in line management and supervision of junior team members.
  6. Commercial awareness.
  7. An aptitude for business development and a passion for growing strong client and external relationships.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  9. Ability to work in a pressurised environment.

If this sounds like you, we'd love to receive your application to join our thriving team.

Our Benefits - What We Can Offer You

  1. 25 days holidays as standard plus bank holidays - You can 'buy' up to 35hrs of extra holiday too.
  2. Generous and flexible pension schemes.
  3. Volunteering days - Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid)
  4. Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services alongside our Aviva Digital GP services.

We also offer a wide range of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you're fully supported. This includes our Flexible by Choice programme which gives our colleagues more choice over a hybrid way of working subject to role, team and client requirements.

We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations for 2024!

Our responsible business programmes are fundamental to who we are and our purpose. We're committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish, and we have established a number of inclusion network groups across our business to support this aim.

Our commitment to Social Responsibility, community investment activity and tackling climate change is a fundamental part of who we are. It's made up of four strands: Our People, Our Community, Our Environment and Our Pro Bono.
