Are you enthused by the value of money, arbitrage, efficient markets, or risk diversification? Do capital markets and financial institutions make you tick? Join us as an Associate Lecturer teaching on Birkbeck's 'Principles of Finance' module this Summer term 2025.

As a fixed-term Associate Lecturer, you will teach:

  • Principles of Finance - level 5
  • 24 hours - teaching Monday 1800-2100 (x7) Friday 1800-1930 (x2)
  • Summer Term - 28 April - 31 August

This post offers the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant undergraduate module at Birkbeck's Business School. Principles of Finance introduces second-year undergraduates to the basic principles of finance. The module provides students with the notions of time value of money, arbitrage, efficient markets, and risk diversification, and discusses the main functions of capital markets and financial institutions and the main financial instruments traded in these markets.

Modern portfolio theory, asset pricing models, and financial derivatives will also be introduced. It is built around an engaging experience in the classroom.

To succeed as Associate Lecturer, you will have:

  • completed, or be near completion of a PhD,
  • excellent communication and presentation skills and some experience teaching a diverse group of undergraduate students,
  • a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and experience of providing support to students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties.

Remuneration:

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on the length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking, and other examining duties in connection with the course.

Contract:
